“This morning, we have publicly released a baseline survey of the race for Governor. Anyone and everyone can now fully access the data on CADEM’s website.
The 2000-sample survey of likely June 2026 voters was conducted on March 12-17 via phone, text and email by EVITARUS – the only Black- and Latina-led full service public opinion research firm in California.
The survey included each candidate’s official ballot designation and party affiliation. In addition, oversamples were completed for Latino, Black and Asian-American voters to avoid small sample sizes and ensure clarity in data results.
Candidates for Governor and their supporters are now fully ramping up their campaigns, voters are now beginning to pay more attention, and we expect additional movement in the coming weeks.
We intend to release an updated tracking poll no later than Tuesday, April 7.
But this initial survey shows two Republicans in the lead with multiple Democrats trailing behind. These results confirm the possibility – albeit a low one – of Democrats being “locked out” of the General Election.
Most importantly, it’s yet another clear reminder of an undeniable fact – all candidates must honestly assess their viable path to win. I continue to call for them to so do.
Simply put, it’s the best way to ensure we elect a Democrat as our next Governor and that California continues its strong leadership at home and abroad.”

The research is being conducted by EVITARUS Research, a Los Angeles-based public opinion research firm. EVITARUS is California’s only Black and Latina-led full-service public opinion research firm. Polling is led by Dr. Shakari Byerly, Director of Polling and Research, in concert with Dr. Angela X. Ocampo, Senior Vice President. The Company’s leadership includes President Raquel Beltran and Chief Executive Rodrego Byerly.
To ensure candidates, supporters, media, and voters have a clear understanding of the current state of the race, updated tracking surveys will be released on a regular basis through early May.
