Job Description: We are looking for a bright, energetic intern who is willing to learn more about the California Democratic Party by assisting our various departments. You will be working closely with our team through our Communications,Finance,Operations,Organizing,Training andPolitical departments. This is a paid internship.

Responsibilities vary based on which department each intern is assigned. Interns will be working in an

ever-changing office setting (in person/virtual hybrid) and are expected to be open and willing to further our California Democratic Party goals. Interns will gain first-hand experience and exposure to the grassroots side of politics on the state level while furthering their professional development.

Example Responsibilities:

  • Answer phones, direct calls and provide basic party information
  • Assist with managing member database
  • Perform research at supervisor’s request
  • Assist with updating social media platforms and write copy for posts
  • Assist in the creation of marketing material and promotions
  • Donor outreach and management
  • Fulfill task set out by supervisors from several departments

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Commitment to work a minimum of 10 hours a week, maximum of 15 hours per week
  • The ideal candidate should be highly organized, reliable, prompt, detail-oriented and self-motivated
  • Interest in politics
  • Willingness to learn voter databases and systems
  • Willingness to communicate with staff, membership and constituents through email and phone

Department: Operations Department

Location: Sacramento

Position Summary:

The California Democratic Party (CDP) is looking to hire a highly motivated individual to serve as Operations Coordinator, who will report directly to the Operations Director.

A strong candidate will be able to quickly learn the processes and procedures of California Democratic Party Bylaws. It is imperative that the candidate is familiar with local, state, and national politics and has a passion for the important work of the Democratic Party. The Operations Coordinator will work closely with the Operations Director to assist the Department Managers in implementing CADEM’s day to day operations in expediting CADEM events and internal elections.

Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Organizes and distributes office correspondence to the appropriate department and staff;
  • Responsible for helping the Operations team in overseeing volunteer activities within the organization. Duties include, placing volunteers in different roles based on their qualifications and maintaining accurate volunteer shifts, communication and scheduling;
  • Maintains the office by organizing office operations and procedures;
  • Monitor and maintain office supplies inventory;
  • Maintains adequate staff supplies for both the Executive Board Meetings and Conventions;
  • Primary liaison with service providers (internet, phone, janitorial, etc.);
  • Excellent task management and willingness to work under deadlines;
  • Strong communication skills, especially over the phone;
  • Able to quickly learn the PDI/CDP Delegate Membership databasesCRM;

The California Democratic Party is hiring a Coalitions Manager. The Coalitions Manager will report to the CADEM Organizing Director and Executive Director and will collaborate with CADEM’s organizing, political, training and communications team to help manage statewide constituency group relationships and strengthen our voter contact program with communities of color, social justice organizations, and grassroots activists.

A strong candidate will have the skills and knowledge to develop and execute a comprehensive coalition-building program in coordination with organizing plans to grow and engage CADEM’s activist base, work with CADEM partners, and carry out electoral and other coalitions managing programs on a statewide scale. The preferred candidate will have the ability to lead and inspire a diverse group of stakeholders, partnered organizations, and volunteers.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Participating in regular planning processes with CADEM leadership including setting coalition-building goals and creating a strategic plan to reach those goals.
  • Assisting in the execution and implementation of the field plan according to the Organizing Department.
  • Providing regular reporting on progress toward goals related to all plan elements. Reports would be provided for the Party Chair, Executive Director, and Organizing Director and other CADEM oversight bodies at the request of the Chair or Executive Director.
  • Using all field and voter contact programs to broaden and engage CADEM’s activist and leadership base.
  • Collaborating with other CADEM departments on organizing, training, communications, etc. to help broaden and strengthen CADEM’s overall work.

Qualifications and Skills

  • At least three years of experience working on coalition-building projects within electoral and issue-based field campaigns 
  • Familiarity with the following current outreach tools: – Zoom/GoogleGroups, Mobilize, mobile walk apps, text banking platforms, social media platforms, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills, including public speaking. 
  • Positive attitude and ability to work both within a team, across several departments, and independently when required. 
  • Good time management skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Working knowledge of California’s political, electoral and legislative processes.
  • Willing to work extensive hours, including nights and weekends with some travel.
  • Ability to approach problem-solving with creativity, initiative and collaboration.
  • Experience working collaboratively with elected officials, candidates, but most importantly, with community groups and/or allied organizations.
  • High level of personal and professional integrity.

Work with the Organizing Director to develop and implement a targeted regional organizing plan and coordinate with CADEM Party leaders, activists and partner organizations in the Central California region. Implement a year-round organizing plan including planning, training and capacity building including volunteer recruitment, direct voter contact, data and tech tools, tracking data and coalition building.

Work with the Northern California Organizing Manager, build and manage a network of volunteers in the San Francisco Bay Area and support targeted campaigns and candidates in the region.

Position Summary: The California Democratic Party (CADEM) seeks a communications professional with 3 – 6 years of experience in communication work. Reporting to the

Communications Director, the Digital Communications Manager will work to manage all digital communications platforms for the California Democratic Party.

Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Develop and manage social media strategies while delivering reports on growth and trends.
  • Manage website content and design while integrating content into all digital space.
  • Manage and develop mass email planning and digital programs
  • Track social media on political issues and stay up to date with the latest digital trends
  • Create graphics, social media copy, blogs, social media kits
  • Manage special digital communications projects, as needed.

Qualities and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three-to-six years of proven work experience in digital marketing with elected officials, candidates and campaigns.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of California’s political, legislative and public affairs environment.
  • Strong writing skills and ability to generate and/or significantly contribute to projects.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and assignments, while working effectively with senior management and administrative staff.
  • Ability to think critically and strategically.
  • Ability to work effectively with staff, senior management, delegates and others in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Working knowledge of ad service tools.
  • Strong analytical skills and data-driven thinking.
  • Up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices of online marketing and measurements.

Summary:

The position serves as an integral part of a dynamic, team-focused organization. The position works directly with the Chair and the Executive Director and maintains the Chair’s schedule, handles logistics and related records, acts as a liaison for the Chair with CADEM staff, CADEM officers, CADEM delegates and the public. 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Prepares the schedule for the Chair and shares information with staff;
  • Manages daily and long-term scheduling for the chair and party leadership; 
  • Briefs the Chair on all scheduling activities and requests; 
  • Responds to all invitations, either by email, written correspondence or personal telephone call;
  • Makes reservations for the Chair’s air travel, ground transportation and lodging; 
  • Helps coordinate travel plans for CADEM Officers, Executive Director when necessary; 
  • Submits travel and expense reimbursements and keeps track of receipts and important documents;
  • Ensures the Chair is provided with briefing materials for each event by coordinating with event participants and the appropriate staff;
  • Handles correspondence including letters, memos, and follow-up correspondence for the Chair:
  • Maintains Chair’s files including notes, correspondence and all information relating to travel;
  • Acts as a liaison between the Chair and party leaders, staff and elected officials to arrange for the Chair’s attendance at meetings or to coordinate travel plans;
  • Works well under pressure and handles busy campaign schedule;
  • Maintain hours Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM in addition to working a flexible schedule, as needed.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Experience using Microsoft and Google Office Suite;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to prioritization of and recommendations on appointments;
  • Thoroughness and careful attention to detail;
  • Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with others
  • Temperament to communicate with a variety of personalities in a tactful, pleasant, and professional manner;
  • Thorough knowledge of office administration, policies, practices, and procedures.

Required Education:

  • Associate degree with at least two years of office experience. Campaign, labor union, government or elected official experience preferred. Experience making travel reservations and arrangements. Alternatively, three to five years of related work experience. Bilingual preferred.

The Youth Vote Manager will report to the CADEM  Organizing Director and will collaborate with CADEM’s Organizing Team to engage young voters at universities,  community colleges, and high schools and to strengthen our voter contact program with young leaders of all backgrounds. 

A strong candidate will have the skills and knowledge to assess, develop, and execute a youth vote program in coordination with organizing plans to grow and engage CADEM’s activist base, work with CADEM partners, and carry out electoral and other programs on a statewide scale. The preferred candidate will have the ability to lead and inspire a diverse group of campus stakeholders, partnered youth vote organizations, and youth vote volunteers. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Participating in regular planning processes with CADEM leadership including setting vote goals and creating a strategic plan to reach those goals. 
  • Assisting in the execution and implementation of the overall field plan according to the Organizing  Department.
